Kiss Series (title tbc)

Following on from my Fervour Series around couples embraced in dance – The Kiss Series (title tbc) series will explore the gesture and performance around a kiss/embrace.

The resulting images will combine beauty with realism. I will focus on the graphics of the individuals, capturing the shape and form of the bodies form close up angles highlighting the body gesture rather than the setting.

Through selective lighting the images will focus on what is revealed in the highlights and what is being concealed in the shadows.

The images below are some initial test images with lighting. It is the intention that the resulting images will focus more on angles, often omitting the kiss itself and be be about leaving a little bit to the imagination.

The Art of Smoking Featured in fLIP Magazine

Images from my series the Art of Smoking were featured as part of the Incognito issue of fLIP magazine. Public smoking, once a common socially accepted activity, is becoming increasingly marginalised and pushed underground. With further legislation inevitable, the activity of street smoking will soon be relegated to history. In this series on pavement smoking, subjects are captured tucked away in doorways and concealed behind walls while they appease their habit.

The Fervour series is an up close and personal depiction of gesture and performance within couples that are connected in dance. The work in this first series explores the stereotypical romance of the Latin dance poses; capturing the shape and form of the bodies form close up angles. The resulting images are intense and emotionally charged depictions showing the way couples connect and fuse together within the act of dance.

MiniClick Pecha Kucha night | in association with Brighton Fringe

I will be speaking for 6 minutes and 40 seconds about my work at a Pecha Kucha night with my fellow colleagues of the Photography MA course at Brighton on Wednesday 9th May at the Old Market in Hove. More details on tickets and the Old Market here. The night is will be May's edition of MiniClick photography talks that happen every month in Brighton or Hove actually. I will be showing and talking about 3 bodies of work including Girls UnScene, the Art of Smoking and my current untitled project on gesture around couples engaged in embrace and kssing.

I love, love, love photographing for Sailor Jerry. Brilliant artwork/brand and there is always something going on ! 2011 kicked off in my home town of Brighton with the Tattoo Convention in January 2011 and Sailor Jerry Presents Pulled Apart by Horses at the Jam Bar in April. The onto Glasgow for the lovely Pete and the Pirates, Bristol with Dananananaykroyd and Cerebral Ballzy played the play final Sailor Jerry Presents gig at Macbeth in London. The main event for the year was Sailor Jerry Ink stage, bar and tattoo parlour at Bestival where my musical highlights were Two Bright Lights , Frank Turner and Alex Winston. Oh and not forgetting photographing the London Tattoo Convention in October. My year in pictures for Sailor Jerrys.

Granada | in tapas ..in progress

Using the article in the Guardian from 2008 The Top Ten Tapas in Granada we embarked upon eating and drinking our way around Granada with just my little 35mm lens. It was a bit tricky at times with no not much elbow room at the bar and so much going on all around. Behind the bar in spain is a performance of skill, memory and professionalism, no faffing and I Love the fact that bars in Spain are men only ; focussed with no dizzy blondes ..and I am a blonde and dizzy, but i was actually good and quick behind the bar

Sailor Jerry Presents Cerebral Ballzy

Sailor Jerry Presents gigs was in London this month with Brooklyn punks Cerebral Ballzy bringing their riotous brand of 80’s hardcore and punk rock to an eager Hoxton crowd. It was full most bit option ..and the photographers lasted around 30 seconds before being kicked out of the way with their camers between their legs… only to keep trying again – I ended the night with a bruised eye and decided to shoot the band and stge action from the side of the stage. My eyesight and camera are just too vital tools that i need to retain ..
